Children's Museum

No visit to Boston would be complete without a stop at the Children's Museum. Here the crew attempts to repair all of the flaws in the Big Dig. Good luck.

Blue Suit Little Guy steers the ship!

Blue Suit Baby Girl finds that it's fun to crawl through pipes. Big brother gives a little encouragement.

The museum has an entire Japanese house in it. The kids draw bags for the Japanese holiday shichi-go-san or 3-5-7.

BSLG's experiment isn't working. He wants the balls to fly. Trust me. The experiments don't work in graduate school either.

A Room with a View

Our hotel room had some great views of Boston. Thought we would share a few with you.

This is a cute shot of BSBG with Rachel. BSBG's hat looks like a rabbit.

Make Way for Ducklings

During their trip to the Boston Public Garden, Rachel and the kids paid homage to the bronze statues of "Make Way for Ducklings." Mrs. Mallard was followed by Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack and Quack. Yes, we do have the book.

The real ducks paid a visit.

Beantown Adventures

The week after Thanksgiving is the traditional time for the Fall Conference of the Materials Research Society (MRS). It's always held in Boston. The whole family packed up and traveled to Boston.

On our first morning at the hotel, we found the hotel's breakfast buffet was way too expensive. So, we headed to Starbucks. Blue Suite Baby Girl wanted a blueberry muffin. It was the size of her head.

Blue Suit Little Guy looked forward to visitng only one place in Boston: the place where he was born. So, one afternoon, Daddy and BSLG hopped on the Green Line and went to Beth Israel Deaconess. The labor and delivery folks thought it was so adorable for him to visit the place he was born. BSLG also got to see the nursery where the newborns were kept.

My advisor at MIT received the Acta Gold Medal during the MRS meeting. A dinner was held in his honor and many of his former students, visiting scientists and colleagues from around the world came. I sat at a table with friends who were in the Suresh Group when I was a grad student.

Rachel and I have a picture of us next to a tree at Boston Common taken when we were first married. Rachel and the kids found the tree and had a little portrait session.
